Short Dresses

Ok, so I know yesterday I was ranting about Ian Stuart’s short dress but this is different. These are the dresses that have a short hem the whole way round, rather than a random train attached to the back. These short dresses are stylish, youthful and fun: Perfect for the bride who wants an informal wedding. Then there’s the huge bonus of not having a dirty hem to worry about. So long as you’re careful, and don’t spill any gravy down the front, you could get away without it needing that expensive, troublesome dry clean. No worries about tripping over the hem or feeling stuffy in a full length dress either- with these short dresses, you have complete freedom of movement. You won’t even need to change for the reception.

Send a Virtual Love Note!

The Virtual Love Note allows anyone to create a personalized short video using the song and some basic themes. You personalize it with names, photos and other details to make it your own and can then send it to whomever you like. It can be used for proposals, announcements or just plain silliness (one of the examples is a woman’s ode to chocolate). It’s all part of the brand’s mission to share the excitement of love, who’s going to argue with that? The folks at Robbins Brothers also showed me the cute diamond ring keychains they give to customers (quick iPhone pic after the jump) and gave me four of them to give away. Want yours?

Grecian Dresses

Bridal catwalks are currently filled with Grecian style dresses. They offer a fantastic versatile look that adds a mythical element to your wedding. White chiffon draping to the floor with crystal embellishments and an elegant shilhouette, this style is guaranteed to dazzle your guests with your classic beauty and make you look like Aphrodite to your Adonis.

Editor’s Pick: Rosa Clara Wedding Gown

So many times I am awed by a stunning designer gown appearing down the catwalk at a major fashion show,  but how many brides would actually dare to wear these creations?   Even Carrie suffered some backlash for her couture Vivienne Westwood gown that she wore in the Sex in the City Movie,  so what chance do us mere fashion mortals have?

Designers are quick to say that their catwalk creations are inspirational visions from which high street style develops from, using these extreme designs as a jumping off point and incorporating elements into more toned-down, wearable designs.

Still,  there are some gowns (like this one by Rosa Clara) that I would love to see a real bride wear down the aisle, because they look beautiful just the way they are.  So the question is would you dare to wear a gown like this?

White Dresses at the Oscars

White dresses were all the rage at the Oscars this week. Nina Calloway at About.com weddings gives us the run down of who was wearing what from Sarah Jessica Parker to Jennifer Aniston.

Check out her gallery of white dresses at the Oscars.

Love it:
It is hard to pick a winner from so many beautiful and stylish women, but Nancy O Dell really stood out for me, in this amazing, slinky number.

Hate It:
Marion Cotillard’s strange fishy Jean Paul Gautier gown came a close second, but Jessica Biel’s Prada gown gets my vote for the worst white dress on the red carpet, looking more like a roomy bathrobe wrap than a glamorous Hollywood dress.

My favourite Oscars dress?
The Randi Rahm gown worn by Maria Menounos- imagine it in white for a sumptous, glamorous wedding gown!

Asymmetrical Weddings Gowns are Great, but Cleopatra Style Gowns are Bad!

I was browsing the Nordstrom bridalwear section of their site today, and felt compelled to share my findings. What a mixed bag of styles! I say that in the best possible way, as I adore seeing greater variety in wedding dress shops, and love it when a bride steps away from the cookie-cutter white ballgown to choose something that reflects her own sense of style. That said, I did find a few that made me blow my fashion police whistle.

Tipsy Feet

We love these Sex In The City inspired shoes from Prezzybox They fold up into a neat, teeny bag while you are out for a night on the tiles in your fabulous high heels, and are a welcome relief for your feet at the end of the night.

Your three inch torture devices can then be stored in the handy, stylish bag. How clever!

We are sure that Carrie and the gang would approve. No more bare feet on concrete for the walk home, silver sandals in hand. We’ve all been there!

These fold up shoes are available in three colours to match any outfit (Prada or Primark).
