New use for your grandmother’s ribbon
As I prepared my wedding abut three years ago, a friend of mine came across some antique ribbon at an antique fair. She promptly bought a soft pink-beige and a slightly darker beige and sent them my way. For weeks I wondered how to incorporate them into my wedding as my something old. The original idea was to use them to wrap my bouquet, but since my colors were fuschia and orange, I gradually eliminated that option.
It wasn’t until my sister, who was in charge of my hair-do for the wedding, saw the ribbon and suggested allowing her to weave it through my hair. It would be a subtle, yet beautiful way to have a different hair-do and a great way to show off the beautiful ribbon. As you can see, the end result was fabulous.
Finding antique ribbon is easy. The first stop could be your own grandmother’s or mother’s closet. The sentimental value of weaving ribbon through your hair will be enhanced by using a piece that had importance in your own grandmother’s or mother’s life. If you don’t find anything there your next stop should be an antique store. Don’t over look old pieces of clothing or dolls with ribbon on them, just make sure they are long enough to be woven through your hair.
Other good places are either estate sales, antique fairs or flea markets. And hey, if you don’t find anything you like you can always buy new ribbon and make it part of your “something new”. The important thing is how fantastic and beautiful your hair will look.
