Carolina Herrera Designer Bio

May 31, 2010 No Comments by

World renowned fashion designer Carolina Herrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela to a family with a long history as landowners and statesmen. She grew up in the world of high fashion, attending her first couture show at just 13 years old. In the 1970s and 80s, she was a member of the international, artsy “beautiful people” crowd who partied with royals and avant garde artist Andy Warhol.

Herrera’s extensive background in fashion and business led her to put together her first exquisitely detailed and expertly crafted fashion collection in 1980, and the rest is history; Carolina Herrera LTD was established in 1981 in New York City.

It wasn’t long before sophisticated and stylish women the world over clamored for the chic couture of the talented and erudite designer, and by 1987, she’d expanded her business to include a signature fragrance that she developed from tuberose and jasmine essences.

Carolina Herrera’s flagship store opened in 2000 in New York City and since then, two other exclusive boutiques have been established on exclusive Melrose Place in Los Angeles and Highland Park in Dallas, Texas.

Her international design firm now encompasses the design and manufacture of Herrera’s modern, exclusive and elegant sense of style in beautifully detailed bridalwear.

Herrera began designing couture bridalwear in the late 80s. Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and actresses Amy Adams, Mariska Hargitay, and Renee Zellweger are just a few of many celebrities who have chosen Carolina  Herrera gowns for their weddings.
The Herrera aesthetic is often described as chic, feminine, whimsical, and approachable. More than that, the designer has mastered the art of marrying traditional and classic with a modern, clean-lined feminine elegance that is never poufy, cluttered, or overdone.

Carolina Herrera’s flagship store opened in 2000 in New York City. She now has five specialty boutiques around the world and her wedding and evening gowns are also available at Bergdorf Goodman, Kleinfeld, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
