Styleboard: Gold

Gold is a great colour choice for weddings. Its adds a touch of luxury and can be used all year round which makes it hugely versatile. As a fairly neutral colour, you can mix it with almost any colour to create your own mood and inject the wedding with your own personality. Combine with gold for a striking contrast, purple for a regal feel or cream for a sophisticated style.

(Clockwise from left) This Anne dress from Jenny Packham is truly stunning. With a deep, dramatic v neck and a long, flowing skirt this gown oozes drama. The embellished band at the waist adds some sparkling detail and creates structure to this floaty style.

For a gold cake, look no further than the Cake Store. This Honeycomb Dream cake sounds as delicious as it looks. Made completely out of chocolate with a layer of Maltesers on every tier and chocolate curls covering the sides. The finishing touch is gold ribbon tied around the tiers and a lovely gold heart topper.

For your bridesmaids, this pretty dress is available at Marks & Spencer. With a frilled detail on the skirt, this style is a classy modern design suitable for all ages. An elegantly simple look- your bridesmaids will certainly look great but there is no danger of them outshining you.

If you’re a designer princess, I’m sure you will be drooling over these amazing Gina shoes. With a concealed platform and stiletto heel covered in Swarkovski crystals for a touch of sparkling bling. The peep toe style is a classic design that will never date and always looks gorgeous. Best worn with a short dress- it would be a shame to have to cover up these beauties.

Finally, complete the look with a gold tiara. This alice band style is available from Weddings and Gems, and is adorned with crystal beads and pearls. A subtle, dainty way to top off your outfit and it will look great with all hair styles, long or short.

About the author

I have always been fascinated by weddings! When I was 10, I read all my mum's wedding magazines and planned not only one, but two entire weddings (a summer and a winter wedding), right down to the apple name-places and centrepieces! Now I am finally planning my own wedding, although with four years to go I have plenty of time to plan!

I’m not usually a fan of gold, but these are some beautiful, sophisticated options for a warm colour scheme. Perfect for a winter wedding by candlelight. LOVE the Jenny Packman wedding gown!
