Irish songstress Andrea Corr married her billionaire heir partner Brett Desmond on 21st August in County Clare. The singer, of The Corrs fame, wed in pretty St Joseph’s church in the tiny village of Miltown Malbay with a population of less than 600. The locals were treated to a whole host of stars visiting to watch the vows, including none other than U2′s Bono.

Andrea arrived fashionably late in a Mercedes, and emerged wearing a beautiful ivory Vera Wang dress. The strapless gown had a large ivory tulle corsage at the bust and a wide gold ribbon around the waist tied in an elegant bow. The full skirt had wide ribbon detailing adding a cute, quirky look to an otherwise traditional gown. The colour of the dress suited Angela perfectly. Her dark brown hair was pinned up in a loose, informal updo with a long but simple two-tiered veil flowing down her back. Her shoes were white platform mules- adding some more of that quirky style found in the dress.

The look was kept simple with no jewellery other than white gold wedding band which perfectly matched that of Brett’s. Even the bouquet was kept to a minimum- a gloriously dainty posy of delicate white gypsophelia by florist Mary Mulqueen which complemented Brett’s buttonhole. The church flowers were more elaborate. In shades of white and lilac, the flowers reportedly cost thousands of euros.

This lilac theme was continued throughout the wedding. The four bridesmaids, including Andrea’s two sisters and fellow Corrs singers, wore matching full length lilac dresses in a bohemian style with v necks and ruffled hems. They each carried a small purple bouquet to complement their matching purple pendants and silver heeled sandals. With other bridesmaids, Andrea’s sister-in-law and a childhood friend, their hair was worn in a simple long style, showing off similar diamond stud earrings.

Brett’s outfit was also in keeping with the purple theme. He wore a simple black suit with pin-striped trousers and white waistcoat, but added a splash of vibrant colour with his purple tie to match the lining of his black jacket.

Following the religious ceremony, the newlyweds and their 400 guests- who, other than Bono, included comedian Patrick Kielty- celebrated with a reception the following evening at the lavish Doonbeg Golf and Spa resort on the Irish cliffs overlooking the Atlantic ocean. The club’s members, who reportedly pay fees of up to £50,000 a year, were sent a letter asking them to stay away from the resort during the party. The celebrations included a set from U2 although The Corrs did not play, which is a relief- there’s nothing tackier than singers using their own songs for their wedding (cough Katie and Peter cough!).

All in all, the ceremony was a wonderfully simple affair. No magazine deals or high-tech security blocking out the crowds. The whole wedding party was very happy to smile for cameras and sign autographs for the villagers who had gathered outside the church to catch a peek. A lovely refreshing thing to see in these days of celebrity weddings. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Desmond!

About the author

I have always been fascinated by weddings! When I was 10, I read all my mum's wedding magazines and planned not only one, but two entire weddings (a summer and a winter wedding), right down to the apple name-places and centrepieces! Now I am finally planning my own wedding, although with four years to go I have plenty of time to plan!
