Celebrity Wedding Style: Salma Hayek

Stunning actress Salma Hayek had not only one, but two weddings to husband Francois-Henri Pinault this year!
The first was a small, private affair in Paris on that most romantic of days- St Valentine’s Day. The second was more public, held in an 18th Century Venetian opera house in April, with white orchids fluttering all over the venue. The couple spared no expense, with the whole day costing a rumoured $2 million. Of course, the average bride doesn’t have a couple of million lying around to flash about so I have found ways to get this lavish wedding look for less.

The dress was a stunning Balenciaga creation by Nicholas Ghesquiere- handy that Francois-Henri’s company owns Balenciaga! With a fitted beaded bodice featuring a flattering V-neck and full silk skirt, Salma looked every inch the superstar bride in her breathtaking gown. Her hair was tied back into an elegantly chic bun above which a simple two-layer veil cascaded to her waist. The only jewellery she wore- apart from the wedding ring, of course- were a pair of statement diamond drop earrings.

Of course, we don’t all have a husband-to-be who owns a top designer brand. However, this Sophia Tolli dress is a similar style and design and less than £1000. It has an intricately beaded bodice with a corset fastening to pull in your waist and create a sexy hourglass silhouette. The pretty lace sleeves are detachable so are perfect for brides who like a versatile look: wear the sleeves during the ceremony to create modesty then remove them in the evening when it’s time to party. The full skirt is made of tulle and creates the fairytale shape that Salma wore so elegantly.

A similar veil can be picked up from the ever wonderful Wedding Veil Shop. This style is a snip at £59. A bold pair of earrings such as these silver and pearl pair from Ernest Jones complete the look. They are only £45, and add a touch of glamour to an otherwise simple outfit. With hair classically tied back out of the way, these earrings get a chance to shine.

As for your make up, keep it simple. A touch of bronzer for that Latino look, a sweep of golden brown eyeshadow and a lick of rose coloured lipstick is all you need to complete this gorgeous style.

For less than £1,200 you can have the Salma Hayek style for your own wedding day and look as lovely as Salma herself. With that saving, maybe you could afford two weddings too!

Congratualtions Mr and Mrs Pinault!

About the author

I have always been fascinated by weddings! When I was 10, I read all my mum's wedding magazines and planned not only one, but two entire weddings (a summer and a winter wedding), right down to the apple name-places and centrepieces! Now I am finally planning my own wedding, although with four years to go I have plenty of time to plan!
