Wedding Hair Styles to Suit your Face Shape
Have you been flipping through magazines to find just the right hair cut and style for your wedding day?
It’s all well and good to pine for the locks of Angela Jolie, Victoria Beckham or Kate Moss, but their styles may not be the right look for you.
Instead read our tips on how to choose a hair style based upon your own unique face shape to enhance your look on your special day.
First, decide which of the six basic shape categories your face falls into.
If you are not sure, try this simple trick: slip on headband to tame your tresses and give a clean outline of your face, look in a mirror and trace the perimeter of your face on the mirror with an eyebrow pencil. (Don’t worry; the pencil mark comes off easily with a commercial window cleaner or vinegar and a paper towel.)
Now you should be able to judge which of the following categories best describes your face and take advantage of the following advice.
Round Face Types: Circular shaped. Length is approximately equal to width.
You need height for your wedding day style. Having height at the crown will give the illusion of elongating your face while subtracting the fullness from your cheeks. A side part also creates this slimming illusion between the two sides of the face adding a lengthening effect.
Square Face Types: Angular on all sides of the face.
Play down your strong, angular features by having texture created in a cascade of curls. This will soften your features to give you an appealing look. A sleek style with layers that start at the jaw line and continue downward is also another option that works well with your face shape.
Oval Face Types: Length is equal to one and a half times width, with forehead and jaw the same width.
Lucky you, as the oval face is the most versatile and can pull off almost any look! Take your pick of short or long, straight or wavy. To add character and show off your features, add curls and choppy layering around the sides of your face
Long or “Oblong” Face Types: Face is longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line
Add some width to your face with flattering styles such as a brow-skimming fringe or a chin-length bob. Curls and waves work well because they add width to the face. They create the illusion of width and doesn’t drag down the face.
Heart Face Types: Wide at the forehead and cheekbones, narrow at the jaw line.
You want a hair style that will play down your chin as the focal point of your face and instead draw attention towards your eyes and cheekbones. One great way to play up the eyes is with side swept bangs. Go for long layers that graze your cheekbones.
Triangular Face Types: Forehead and cheekbones are narrow with a wider jaw line
You need to create an illusion that does the opposite; narrows your chin and widens your forehead. Layered hairstyles can diminish a prominent jaw line. Keep the hairline back off the face with no fringe. Your face will then appear more balanced and in proportion.
