Tips for Looking Your Best in Photos

On your wedding day, you’ll be photographed repeatedly, and while it’s the photographer’s job to capture beautiful moments, you can help by remembering some tips for posing yourself in the most flattering way.

Stagger your steps
Standing straight on to the camera is generally not a good idea. It can widen you, so to make sure you look slimmer instead, make sure you’re at an angle from the camera. Try putting one foot in front of the other, or turning your hips so one is facing straight at the camera and the other one is behind it. When you do this, also watch arms as they shouldn’t just hang lifelessly from your body. Roll your shoulders back casually and put a casual bend in your arm so that they’re also at an angle.

Don’t be shy
Sometimes when people are being photographed, their instinct is to lean away from the camera. The reality is that this is one of the most unflattering things you can do. Without exaggerating your movements, try to lean in toward the camera, leading with your chest and chin, about five degrees. This is a simple trick that can eliminate the appearance of a double chin and make you look thinner and more flattered.

Be aware of angles
Most photographers know this, but it can be helpful if their subjects do too. In general, being photographed from above (at a taller angle) will be more flattering to the face and body than the opposite. Make sure to position yourself (and allow your photographer to position him or herself) so that capturing people and events from above will be possible. This doesn’t have to be an exaggerated high angle, but a few degrees can make a big difference and flatter individuals, groups or scenes.

These are great tips. We actually wrote a similar topic awhile back about how to take an engagement photo. We asked several photographers what were their advice. The general consensus was to just relax and be yourself!
